How to handle swollen tonsils in children

Patient's question:

The child has been coughing for several days due to swollen tonsils, and has improved significantly after taking medication. Right after finishing her medicine, she went out to play for a while. Suddenly, she said her right chest (chest pain) hurt, but it soon went away. After playing for a few more minutes, she said it hurt again. This happened back and forth about three or five times. I’m wondering what could be going on. She’s currently in good spirits, and this has never happened before. Should we take her to the hospital for a thorough check-up? The medications she’s taking include Azithromycin Syrup, Ganoderma Lucidum, and Loratadine.

Doctor's answer:

Based on the description of your baby's condition, it may just be pain caused by chest vibrations due to coughing. It is recommended to drink more fluids and avoid spicy and irritating foods. Additionally, since the child is quite young, their symptoms may not be described accurately. Currently, the child is in good spirits and has no other symptoms, which suggests there is nothing serious. It is advisable to continue monitoring closely and pay attention to keeping the child warm while providing them with more warm water to drink.
