What are the reasons for a 6-year-old child's cough with thick phlegm?

Patient's question:

The child is 18 years old. Recently, they have had a cough with thick phlegm and a runny nose. Yesterday, they started hiccuping, had a runny nose with clear discharge, and had a high fever. Today, they began experiencing a sore throat and stomach pain, with a fever as high as 38.5 degrees Celsius, accompanied by dry retching, which later turned into full vomiting.

Doctor's answer:

The baby previously had a cough and phlegm, and later experienced fever and hiccups, which may be secondary influenza. Influenza can cause symptoms such as fever, runny nose, accompanied by dry cough and abdominal pain. Additionally, oral oseltamivir is acceptable, but since there are already symptoms of dry cough and adverse reactions to oseltamivir, it is best to take the medication after meals. If persistent dry cough cannot be effectively relieved, then intravenous infusion may be necessary.
