How to deal with a baby who doesn't sleep soundly at night

Patient's question:

My ten-month-old baby has been having trouble sleeping at night recently, tossing and turning, and even grinding his teeth. Last night, he kept pulling his own hair. During the day, he only sleeps for one or two hours at most, and falls asleep when it gets close to dark. He stays awake later at night, and then wakes up in the middle of the night! After 5:30 AM, he completely stops sleeping and has even learned to cry when he wakes up! I don't know what's wrong, and it's driving me crazy. It's making my head ache every day!

Doctor's answer:

The baby has been experiencing difficulty sleeping during the second half of the night, which may be due to a lack of vitamin D, possibly related to insufficient sun exposure and a diet low in vitamin D-rich foods. It's not yet severe, so it can be managed. It is recommended to have a blood electrolyte test for a clear diagnosis. Stay hydrated, avoid getting cold, consume more vegetable and fruit juices, and avoid foods that cause stomach upset. Sun exposure is beneficial, and vitamin AD drops and calcium gluconate oral solution can be taken for treatment.
