Why does a 2-month-old child get pneumonia

Patient's question:

Why did my child get pneumonia at 2 months? What conditions lead to this illness? Currently hospitalized. The doctor said it's very serious. I'd like to understand the origin and development of this disease.

Doctor's answer:

Pneumonia is generally caused by bacterial or other pathogenic microorganisms. It may be related to inadequate adult care or insufficient nutrition in children. When a child gets cold, pathogens reach the nasal cavity, and if the body cannot resist them or if clothes are not added in time, the pathogens move upwards to reach the trachea and bronchi. If the body still cannot resist, they reach the lungs, causing pneumonia. Pneumonia usually involves low fever and coughing. Such young children do not cough up phlegm, so the phlegm cannot be expelled, leading to a very slow recovery from pneumonia.
