Why might the baby in the stomach have hemolytic disease

Patient's question:

My wife is O positive Rh, and I am B negative Rh. Moreover, my wife had a miscarriage in March, and we got pregnant again in July. When we went to the hospital, the doctor said our baby might have hemolytic disease. I would like to hear an explanation from the doctor, thank you.

Doctor's answer:

Generally speaking, if the mother is type O blood and the father is also type O blood, the first child will never experience hemolytic disease again. However, the second child has a higher likelihood of experiencing hemolysis again. If the child's body has antibodies different from the mother's blood type, hemolysis may occur again, with a probability of approximately 11.8%. After the child is born, jaundice will persist at a high level, and the likelihood of preterm birth is relatively high.
