On the basis of identifying the numerous "pre-problems" in the study of literary ontology, it argues, through thorough argumentation, that the category of "ontology" in philosophical ontology cannot be transferred to the literary field. In fact, literature has no ontology, and literary ontology is a pseudo-problem. To answer the question of "what is literature," one should return to literary essentialism. It also points out that many "pre-problems" exist in existing studies of literary essentialism. To address this, it tentatively proposes the solutions of "agreement" and "falsification." Finally, it reflects on the literary ontology trends, concluding that in terms of purpose, methodology, and adherence to materialism, there are many lessons worth learning from our literary research.
