Congenital heart disease is a congenital malformation caused by abnormal development of the heart and major blood vessels during the fetal period. It is the most common type of heart disease in children, with ventricular septal defect being the most prevalent. The etiology of most congenital heart disease patients remains unclear, but it is currently believed to be related to 1. Intrinsic factors, such as hereditary transmission across generations, and 2. External factors, with the most important being intrauterine infection, particularly early viral infections in the mother, such as rubella, influenza, and mumps virus infections. Other factors that may be associated with this condition include the mother's deficiency in folic acid, exposure to radiation, medication use, metabolic disorders such as diabetes and hypercalcemia, and intrauterine asphyxia. Generally, it has little to do with a lack of daytime napping.
