How to Treat a Baby's Squint

Patient's question:

My child is four years old this year. Recently, for the past ten or so days, he has been squinting his eyes a lot. What should I do? About the past treatment and its effectiveness: He has never been treated. What kind of help do you need: I want the doctor to help resolve my child's squinting problem.

Doctor's answer:

The child frequently blinks his eyes. When squinting, first carefully ask the child if there is any discomfort in the eyes, such as pain or a foreign body sensation. Then, have an ophthalmologist conduct a thorough examination and treat the cause accordingly. If necessary, antibiotic eye drops can be applied to the eyes, and ectropion (inverted eyelashes) can be trimmed, along with completely removing corneal and conjunctival foreign bodies. Additionally, stop watching TV and playing with computers. If the blinking and squinting are due to bad habits, parents should not scold the child endlessly. Instead, educate the child to consciously minimize blinking and squinting and gradually eliminate the bad habits of blinking and squinting.
