Patient's question:
What factors cause juvenile epilepsy? My relative's child is 15 years old this year, and he has a very bad temper. The main reason is that the child suffers from epilepsy, and his mental state is also abnormal. The family can't do anything about it. What kind of help is needed: What factors cause juvenile epilepsy?Doctor's answer:
Genetic factors across generations are a cause of epilepsy in adolescents. A small portion of epilepsy does have a reverse genetic inheritance pattern, but heredity is not necessarily certain. Experiments on twins with epilepsy have shown that children with epilepsy have a genetic predisposition across generations. Family pedigree analysis and epidemiological surveys of epilepsy patients indicate that the prevalence rate of epilepsy among relatives of idiopathic epilepsy patients ranges from 3.8% to 10.8%, with some cases as high as 19.8% to 35%. This is significantly lower than the 1% to 4.6% prevalence rate in symptomatic epilepsy, which is still higher than the general population's rate by 0.3% to 0.6%. Moreover, the closer the blood relationship to the patient, the higher the prevalence rate.
