What should I do if my child has a high fever for two consecutive days?

Patient's question:

The child is 18 years old and has had a low fever for two days, with a high temperature reaching nearly 40°C. They have taken Rizhiqing and anti-inflammatory medication prescribed by the doctor. In the evening of today, the fever had already dropped to below 38°C, but now it's back up to nearly 40°C again. Is there any good way to reduce the fever?

Doctor's answer:

Baby has a fever, which is usually caused by a bacterial or viral infection. If the temperature is below 38.5°C, medication to reduce fever should be taken, drink more water, and enhance warmth. Generally, sweating will occur within 1 hour after taking the medication, and the temperature will rise after sweating. If the temperature does not exceed 38.5°C, drink more water, use fever-reducing patches or warm towels for physical cooling. During the acute stage of infection, the fever may persist for 3-5 days, with the temperature gradually rising and the fever interval shortening. Anti-inflammatory and antiviral drugs can be taken.
