Features: "A Film Atlas" is a very stylish collection of film essays. It was rewritten from the author Guo Xiaolu's notes written during his time pursuing a master's degree in film studies at the Beijing Film Academy. It mentions many great films from Chinese and international film history, such as The Big Fly South, Citizen Kane, Dancer in the Dark, Yellow Earth, In the Mood for Love, and Edward Scissorhands. The author uses a (sensitive) pen to depict the (territory) of his film empire in his heart. There is also an appendix listing over a hundred film titles, which is a guide for film enthusiasts. This is the best-read book about film that I have ever read, of course, I mean books written by Chinese authors. Guo Xiaolu is actually quite an academic, but in A Film Atlas, there is not too much of the (stuffy atmosphere) of academia. To be fair, the quality of this book is quite good. – Wind Drifting (netizen)
