Supreme Interest is a contemporary political novel that exposes the secrets of performance-based projects. Starting with a reflection on the political system, Zhou Meisen presents his latest work, Supreme Interest, showcasing the sharp and core contradictions of contemporary politics and the choices of politicians.
The protagonist, Li Dongfang, takes over as the Secretary of the Municipal Party Committee after succeeding the mayoral position. He faces the severe consequences of performance-based projects carried out by his two predecessors: Zhong Mingren, the former Provincial Party Secretary, had pushed for an International Industrial Park that turned out to be a garbage park, with frequent environmental disasters; Zhao Qigong, the former Vice Governor, had trapped 30 billion yuan in funds in the new district, nearly bankrupting the local finances; local township cadres could not pay salaries, 200,000 people were laid off and unemployed, with continuous mass protests; and high-ranking officials fell into corruption, with Tian Zhuoda fleeing with 300 million yuan in stolen funds.
Facing the crisis, Li Dongfang bears the brunt, supported by the fearless and selfless young mayor's assistant, He Jiaguo. He cleans up the mess left by his two predecessors' "performance," repeatedly falling into political dilemmas and dangers. Supreme Interest continues to maintain the powerful ideological impact and the unwavering integrity and grand style characteristic of Zhou Meisen's previous works. The story unfolds on a grand scale with astonishing and gripping plots, leaving readers reluctant to put it down.
