Features: This book is co-authored by eight experienced nuclear medicine teaching faculty from the First, Second, Third, and Fifth Clinical Medical Colleges and the Basic Medical College of Peking University, along with some young teachers. It is primarily intended as a textbook for long-term clinical medical students, while also serving as a reference for medical students from other disciplines. The book can also be used as a continuing education resource for physicians in non-nuclear medicine fields. The book is divided into two parts: Nuclear Medicine Basics and Clinical Nuclear Medicine, comprising a total of 16 chapters.
The Nuclear Medicine Basics section (Chapters 1–4) introduces fundamental knowledge of nuclear medicine, including nuclear physics, radioactive pharmaceuticals, nuclear medicine instruments and examination methods, and the biological effects of ionizing radiation and radiation protection.
The Clinical Nuclear Medicine section (Chapters 5–16) is the core of the book, systematically explaining the principles, diagnostic key points, and clinical applications of commonly used in vivo nuclear medicine examination methods. Some examination methods, while no longer offering significant advantages compared to other imaging techniques, still hold certain value and are briefly introduced. In recent years, molecular nuclear medicine has emerged as a rapidly developing frontier of nuclear medicine. Although many methods are still in the research phase, they have demonstrated broad application prospects in medical research and disease diagnosis. Meanwhile, tumor nuclear medicine has grown rapidly as a significant branch of nuclear medicine, driven by the application of new technologies and equipment, as well as the development of radioactive pharmaceuticals. Therefore, molecular nuclear medicine and tumor nuclear medicine are introduced as separate chapters.
Since physicians in non-nuclear medicine fields do not need to perform specific technical procedures, this section does not detail technical specifics, which differs from nuclear medicine textbooks aimed at specialists. The section also includes radioactive nuclide therapy and. Each chapter of the book incorporates the latest advancements in nuclear medicine diagnosis and treatment, while outdated or impractical content is removed, reflecting the innovative nature of 21st-century textbooks.
Given the functional and metabolic imaging characteristics of nuclear medicine, the book features 106 selected illustrations to help students understand the content and enhance their ability to recognize nuclear medicine images of various diseases. To help students grasp key points, stimulate their learning interest, and further improve their knowledge, each chapter concludes with an English summary, discussion questions, and a list of recommended reference materials.
This textbook adheres to "bilingual" teaching requirements, reinforcing students' memory of English professional terminology. Approximately 800 key terms are included in the book, with each new term annotated in Chinese upon first appearance and subsequently presented in English only. Most figures and tables in the book are in English, except for a few where English is not conducive to comprehension, which are presented in Chinese. Each chapter concludes with an English summary. The book also includes an English-Chinese professional vocabulary index and an accompanying CD-ROM with English-only professional vocabulary.
