Diabetes Clinical Guidelines

Author: Qian Rongli
Publisher:
Publishing Date: 2000-11-01
Features: This book reflects the achievements and new information in diabetes and its complications over the past 20 years, both internationally and domestically. It standardizes the diagnosis and classification of diabetes in China according to international standards and regulates the prevention and treatment requirements for diabetes and its complications. It is believed that the publication of this book will strongly promote the development of diabetes prevention and treatment across the country, playing a positive role in reducing the prevalence of diabetes and its complications in China. After years of preparation and the efforts of the authors, the Clinical Guidelines for Diabetes are now presented to the readers. The publication of the Guidelines was intended to meet the growing number of diabetes patients in China, where the professional levels of health professionals vary across regions, and the development of diabetes prevention and treatment is uneven. It was written in a timely manner to meet the need for grassroots professionals to unify and improve their basic knowledge of diabetes. In the last two decades of the 20th century, breakthroughs were made in the study of diabetes, especially type 2 diabetes, both domestically and internationally, from molecular genetics to epidemiological and environmental factors, as well as in the pathogenesis of diabetes, insulin resistance, and the famous DCCT and UKPDS studies on chronic vascular complications of diabetes. These achievements and progress are reflected in the revision of diabetes diagnostic criteria and the new recommendations for diabetes classification in the 1997 ADA and 1999 WHO expert consultation reports. The Guidelines basically reflect these achievements and new information. However, as the Guidelines primarily reflect commonly accepted views, the writing strives for clear perspectives, comprehensive content, and concise language. Therefore, we hope this Guidelines will be helpful to grassroots professionals in carrying out diabetes prevention and treatment work. The writing of the Guidelines was supported by the leadership of the Ministry of Health. Professor Yin Daquan, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Health, wrote a preface for the Guidelines. The publication of the Guidelines is thanks to the support of all parties, primarily the support of the authors. Doctors Chen Yu, Zhang Junqing, and others from the Endocrinology Department of Peking University Hospital helped with the printing and organization of the manuscript. The efforts of Peking University Medical College Press in ensuring the high-quality publication of the Guidelines are also acknowledged here. Due to the large number of authors participating in the writing, the writing styles may not be entirely uniform. The editors have made every effort to revise this. This is the first Clinical Guidelines for Diabetes published after the founding of the People's Republic of China. Therefore, any inappropriate or suggestions regarding the content or layout are welcome from the readers so that they can be revised in the next edition, making the Guidelines more perfect and applicable.
