Features: Easy Read Classics Series. To promote English learning among Chinese middle school students and cultivate their cultural literacy and literary appreciation, Shanghai Foreign Language Education Press, after extensive deliberation and market research, decided to introduce a series of abridged literary classics from the British Macmillan Publishing Company to Chinese middle school students. From this series of abridged literary classics by Macmillan Publishing Company, SFLEP carefully selected 40 books to form the "Easy Read Classics Series," with difficulty levels spanning Levels 3 to 8 of the "English Curriculum Standards." This series includes classic works by literary masters from the UK, the US, France, and other countries, featuring the works of renowned authors such as Shakespeare, Dickens, Mark Twain, Hardy, and Alexandre Dumas. To help Chinese middle school students better grasp the essence of the original works and the creative journeys of the authors, SFLEP has specially annotated the language difficulties in the reading materials and included background introductions about the authors and their works. We sincerely hope that the "Easy Read Classics Series" will help improve the literary appreciation level of Chinese middle school students, cultivate their moral character, enhance their English reading skills, and become the key to opening the door to reading English literary classics for middle school students.
The protagonist of the novel, Victor Frankenstein, studies chemistry and medicine at university and becomes obsessed with exploring the secrets of life to the point of madness. What is the difference between the living and the dead? Why do corpses turn to dust? Can the dead be resurrected? With these questions in mind, he dedicates himself to studying, researching, and experimenting. He digs up graves, steals corpses from morgues, and dissects and reassembles them. On a stormy night, with the help of thunder and lightning, he finally brings the assembled limbs back to life. When Victor discovers that the creature he has brought to life is a grotesque and monstrous being, he abandons it. From then on, the creature lives in agony. Forced to live in the forest, it ventures into a village to seek food. The villagers, repelled by its ugliness, either flee in terror or stone it. Despite this, the creature still tries to seek love from humanity, but it is always met with indifference, contempt, and abandonment. From then on, a series of conflicts and pursuits begin. The creature begins to take revenge on Victor and harms many innocent people.
