Patient's question:
Does ADHD affect intelligence?Doctor's answer:
ADHD refers to a condition where individuals have normal or near-normal intelligence and may be caused by various factors. Due to mild brain function impairments, it manifests as excessive activity that is disproportionate to their intellectual level, presenting as a comprehensive disorder affecting sensory perception, language, memory, conceptual formation, and motor control. It is caused by damage to the nervous system, where perception cannot filter incoming stimuli, leading to overstimulation and resulting in ADHD. As long as the symptoms of ADHD are well-controlled and the child receives proper guidance, they will grow up to be the same as normal children. Learning is not an issue, and it will not affect their intelligence.
