How many times a day is it normal for a child to have a bowel movement?

Patient's question:

The child is doing well mentally, can eat milk, sleeps well in the afternoon, and doesn't sleep much during the day. Sometimes they go 2-3 days without a bowel movement, and sometimes it's 4-5 days. The stool is very smelly, and the child's words are also very smelly.
What kind of assistance is needed: I'd like to ask the expert about this...

Doctor's answer:

The baby has a bowel movement every 2-3 days. Sometimes it may take 4-5 days for a bowel movement, and as long as it's not too dry, it's considered normal. However, it's not ideal.
Additionally, I recommend:
1) Drink more water—make sure to drink more water. You can add milk to formula or water, with 1 packet per day. Do not combine formula, breast milk, and calcium together. They should be spaced 2 hours apart, as otherwise, it may also lead to constipation and interfere with the digestion of milk and calcium. Not only will it be ineffective, but it may also cause severe side effects.
2) For breastfed babies, the mother should adjust her diet structure. Eat lighter foods and drink more water.
3) Massage the baby's abdomen in a clockwise direction, twice a day, for 5-10 minutes each time.
4) Eat more fruits and vegetable juices. The baby should not drink milk too quickly; you can dilute the formula.
