How to treat a fever

Patient's question:

I don't know what's going on, but my child has been misbehaving lately and crying non-stop. Even the hospital check-up didn't help. How should I treat a fever?

Doctor's answer:

Over 38.5 degrees Celsius, it is recommended to use Motrin (ibuprofen) for fever reduction, which is quite effective. If there is no sweating or fever reduction after taking Motrin for one hour, the temperature may even rise above 39. In such cases, you can use a 30% alcohol solution to cool the body by rubbing it on the skin (but since infant skin is delicate and alcohol is irritating, it is not recommended for infants). If this still doesn't help, it may be necessary to go to the hospital for intramuscular injection of fever-reducing medication and further treatment.
