Based on the Ministry of Education's new curriculum guidelines, this book references numerous current textbooks and incorporates teaching experiences from the United States and the United Kingdom to provide a shortcut for improving listening skills. It includes standard recordings by native American teachers to enhance English listening and speaking abilities.
This book is based on the Ministry of Education's "Teaching Outline for English in Full-Time Junior High Schools of Nine-Year Compulsory Education" and the newly compiled junior high school English textbook by the People's Education Press. It aligns with the outline while appropriately expanding content and increasing difficulty to suit the psychological characteristics of junior high school students. The book adopts forms and content that match their language habits, aiming to integrate the fun, usability, systematicity, and knowledge of English.
The book is divided into three volumes, one for each grade from first to third, and comes with audio cassettes. Each volume consists of two parts and four types of exercises. Part 1 is listening training, and Part 2 is the listening scripts and reference answers for exercises, which are provided for teachers' classroom instruction, parents' after-school tutoring, and students' checking answers.
This book follows a one-lesson-one-exercise approach based on the textbook, covering both auditory development and dictation skills. It progresses from words, phrases, and single sentences to dialogues and short passages, with appropriate inclusion of listening and singing, poetry recitation, and humorous short stories. Through repetition and comparison, it enhances understanding and retention of key knowledge points, gradually strengthening students' listening skills.
Additionally, the book provides six listening exercises for mid-term and final exams to assess or self-test students' listening abilities. It can also be used for regular self-study or classroom instruction in junior high schools. The basic goal is to train listening skills and techniques, enabling students from first to third grade to gradually understand materials with a speed of 90–110 words per minute and engage in simple English conversations.
