Is it pathological jaundice or breast milk jaundice?

Patient's question:

The baby is already 45 days old, but there is still jaundice under the eyes and on the face. Everything else is fine. It has been more than a week. What kind of help is needed: Is it pathological jaundice?

Doctor's answer:

Infants who are breastfed may experience jaundice again 4 to 7 days after birth, peaking between 2 to 4 weeks (serum bilirubin levels can be lower than 256.6 to 342.0 μmol/L). They generally appear well without signs of hemolysis or anemia. The jaundice typically persists for 3 to 4 weeks, gradually fading away in the second month, though in very rare cases, it may take up to 10 weeks to resolve. If breastfeeding is stopped for 3 to 4 days during the jaundice period, the jaundice will significantly decrease, and bilirubin levels may rise by ≥50%. If breastfeeding resumes, the jaundice may not reappear, or if it does, it will never reach the current severity.
