Features: Protecting the environment is a strategic issue concerning the overall economic and social development of our country, as well as an important indicator of a nation's and people's level of civilization. Our Party and State have always attached great importance to environmental protection work. In the new century, effectively carrying out environmental protection is of great significance for achieving the grand goals of the 15th Five-Year Plan and the third-phase development strategy for national economic and social development. To help cadres, especially leaders at all levels, study and master the policies and measures of the Party and State on environmental protection, raise the environmental awareness of the entire nation, and strengthen environmental protection work, the State Environmental Protection Administration and the Central of the Communist Party of China jointly compiled the book "Selected Important Documents on Environmental Protection in the New Period." This book includes 104 important documents from the Third Plenary Session of the Twelfth Central Committee of the Communist Party of China in December 1978 to the Fifth Plenary Session of the Fifteenth Central Committee of the Communist Party of China in October 2000. Among them, 44 documents issued by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, the National People's Congress, the State Council, and relevant ministries and commissions are included, such as decisions, notices, laws, regulations, and plans. Additionally, 60 documents include speeches, articles, letters, and directives by leaders of the Party and State.
