Patient's question:
My child is 6 years old this year. In August 2010, he/she received an anesthetic booster shot. However, the school has now notified us that another anesthetic meningococcal vaccine is required. I don't know how to proceed. Please advise. Thank you!Doctor's answer:
According to the latest extended automatic immunization program regulations, four doses of meningococcal vaccine should be administered. Doses 1 and 2 use A-group meningococcal vaccine. Children aged 6 months to 18 months should receive the first dose of the vaccine. Doses 1 and 2 are for basic automatic immunization, with an interval of at least 3 months between doses. Doses 3 and 4 are for booster immunization, using AC-group meningococcal vaccine. The third dose should be administered at age 3, with an interval of at least 1 year from the second dose. The fourth dose should be administered at age 6, with an interval of at least 3 years from the third dose.Guidelines: In 2010, the third dose was administered at age 3. For those aged 18 to 60, the fourth dose still needs to be administered, with an interval of at least 3 years from the third dose.
