Why do babies get cerebral palsy?

Patient's question:

I got married to my husband very late, and it took us two years to finally have a baby. Both of us are generally in good health, but for some reason, the baby's health started to decline after birth. During a recent hospital check-up, we discovered that the baby has infantile cerebral palsy.
What kind of help do I need: Why did my child develop infantile cerebral palsy?

Doctor's answer:

Cerebral palsy typically occurs before birth or during infancy, with causes including: birth injuries, neonatal jaundice, brain hypoxia; premature birth, etc. The main symptoms are increased muscle tone, difficulty in abduction, and in severe cases, muscle rigidity, scar contractures, and joints maintaining a flexed position. In mild cases, there is poor fine motor skills in the hands, and the heels cannot touch the ground when walking. These patients often have associated language development delays, speech disorders, and strabismus. Approximately 1/3 of patients have varying degrees of tics and intellectual disabilities.
