Features: The story is set against the backdrop of the Old Beijing's Dashilan Street, revolving around the Luo family, the Qiu family, Grand Secretary Mu, and the "national treasure" traditional Chinese medicine master Wu Shaobo. The protagonists, Luo Yinqiu and Qiu Ziyu, are both descendants of merchants, classmates as well as lifelong friends, and rely on the same backing—Grand Secretary Mu. In the fierce business competition, they scheme and plot against each other, fighting to the death. At a critical moment, Grand Secretary Mu, to protect his own life and property, abandons the Luo and Qiu families as easily as discarding an old piece of clothing. Amidst the dangers of officialdom and the shocks of the business world, there is also tangled emotions. Wu Shaobo's daughter, Wu Qiaoyun, is coveted by both Luo Yinqiu and Qiu Ziyu. Qiu Ziyan, Qiu Ziyu's younger sister who depends on him for everything, is deeply in love with Luo Yinqiu, her brother's "enemy." What makes matters more complicated is that Grand Secretary Mu also covets both Wu Qiaoyun and Qiu Ziyan. The characters in the story are intertwined, each harboring their own selfish motives while also adhering to their own principles in life.
