Novel Monthly 2003 Best Works Collection is the third volume published by the editorial department of this magazine, following the "Novel Monthly Annual Best Works Collection" released in 2001 and 2002. It is compiled from 46 selected middle novels and 69 short stories published in the magazine in 2003. After a thorough rereading and repeated comparison and selection based on multiple aspects of the works—such as their ideological and artistic value—the final nine middle novels and eleven short stories were chosen to be included in the collection. This is truly a selection of the best from the best, representing the finest middle and short fiction of mainland China in 2003, thereby enhancing the book's value for reading, appreciation, research, and collection.
