What medicine to use for infant diarrhea

Patient's question:

What medicine should a baby with viral gastroenteritis and pathogenic E. coli gastroenteritis take? The stool is watery with small particles, starting from yesterday, and they have been having 10 bowel movements a day! The baby is generally okay in spirit and appetite. What medicine should be used??!! They have already used Smecta and Mamei Ai, except for Dinggui'er, with no effect. They are still having bowel movements...

Doctor's answer:

Viral gastroenteritis accounts for approximately 60% to 70% of pediatric diarrhea and is a common digestive system disease in children. There are generally two peak seasons for its occurrence in a year: one is from June, July, and August, known as "summer vomiting and nausea," during which the pathogens causing pediatric diarrhea are primarily enteroviruses and pathogenic Escherichia coli, with a very small number being Shigella. The other peak occurs in October, November, and December, known as "autumn vomiting and nausea," during which the pathogens are primarily rotavirus, with a very small number being adenovirus infection. If a child presents with watery stools during the summer and autumn months, viral gastroenteritis should be considered, and antibiotics are generally not required.
