Features: This book consists of six parts and a total of 30 chapters, co-authored by 27 outstanding orthodontic experts. Among them, the world's oldest and most excellent Iowa University orthodontic group led by Bishara also participated in the writing of this book. In addition, other renowned research groups from around the world also took part in the writing and provided a large amount of extremely valuable materials. The book is rich in content and is particularly suitable for graduate and undergraduate students in the field of orthodontics. This book is divided into six parts: Part 1: Growth and Development. This part describes the changes in the entire body from the embryonic stage to adulthood. It particularly emphasizes the normal and abnormal development of facial structures, as well as the relationship from the deciduous dentition to the permanent dentition. Part 2: Diagnosis. Systematically estimating the relationships between various teeth and the face is the foundation of correct diagnosis for malocclusion. This part discusses how clinicians use each parameter to estimate the details of relatively simple and complex issues related to the dentition, skeletal, and soft tissue structures. Part 3: Appliances. This part discusses the principles of making and using fixed appliances. The focus is on biomechanical concepts rather than the details of various techniques. Part 4: Treatment and Treatment Considerations. This part discusses the treatment methods faced by orthodontists for deciduous dentition, mixed dentition, and permanent dentition. For specific malocclusions, outlines of complex orthodontic treatment are listed. Part 5: Other Aspects Related to Treatment. In addition to correctly diagnosing malocclusion and selecting the appropriate appliance, other considerations for clinicians, patients, and parents are the successful completion of the expected treatment goals. Part 6: Orthodontic Ancillary Treatment. A large number of complex issues need to be considered for a comprehensive assessment and management of orthodontic patients. Some of these issues require special consideration by orthodontists or evaluation or intervention by other experts to provide appropriate treatment for malocclusion patients.
