Features: The history of fomentation therapy is long-standing. The "Fifty-two Disease Formulas" unearthed from the Ma Wangdui Han Tomb records the use of Chinese medicine steaming methods. The "Neijing" also states, "Disease arises from the sinews, treat it with fomentation and traction," and includes specific formulas for treating cold bi (painful obstruction) with medicinal fomentation. The Ming Dynasty's "Pujifu Fang" (General Relief of Ills) describes the method of applying medicinal fomentation to Yongquan (Great Rushing Point) to treat rhinitis. By the Qing Dynasty, Wu Shijie's "Liyue Qianwen" (Parallel Writings on the Theory of Fomentation) provided a systematic summary of this therapy.
The theory of fomentation therapy is based on the principles of TCM's zang-fu organ and meridian differentiation, sharing the same principles as internal treatment methods, with the only difference being the route of administration. Fomentation therapy does not burden the spleen and stomach, so it does not damage internal organs, making it particularly suitable for the elderly, frail, and those unable to take oral medication. For thousands of years, fomentation therapy has been widely practiced among the people and deeply loved by the masses. It can be used to treat over 100 conditions throughout the body, characterized by its convenience, low cost, effectiveness, and speed. It is not only capable of treating common and frequent illnesses but also often demonstrates therapeutic effects that conventional methods cannot match for difficult and critical conditions.
