Features: This work is hailed as the sister volume to Red Star Over China (Journey to the West). In 1944, American journalist Harrison Forman broke through numerous obstacles, traveling north from Chongqing under Nationalist control to Yan'an and the North China Anti-Japanese Base Area led by the Communist Party of China, where he conducted battlefield reporting and wrote the internationally acclaimed Red China Report (later translated as Northbound Journey). During his interviews, Forman not only met numerous prominent political figures such as Wang Zhen, Nie Rongzhen, Zhu De, Mao Zedong, Jiang Qing, and Chen Yi, but also focused on ordinary Eighth Route Army soldiers, Young Pioneers, and children members. The author traveled thousands of miles, reflecting the grand and tumultuous people's war and profound political changes through his personal experiences and new perspectives. More intriguingly, Forman's northbound journey was initially conducted under Nationalist surveillance as a "cultural gathering," but the author was completely moved by the people's war led by the Communist Party of China. Later, he even took up arms during his military reporting and became a great internationalist fighter who personally resisted the Japanese invaders.
