Features: Globalization is first and foremost an economic development process, but ultimately it is an integrated development process. Whether people are willing or not, as the process of economic globalization unfolds, the globalization processes of culture, art, ethics, academia, and politics also begin to emerge to some extent. Correspondingly, globalization theory is highly comprehensive, at least including basic content such as economic globalization, political globalization, social globalization, and cultural globalization. This book is a work compiled by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) through its Council of Social Sciences for Latin America and the Caribbean, as a tribute to the internationally renowned Brazilian scholar Theotonio dos Santos. The purpose of this book is to celebrate Theotonio dos Santos' 60th birthday. The book includes contributions from himself and scholars or politicians related to his work, discussing their own perspectives on the challenges of globalization in different fields. The main theme of the essays in this book is the challenges posed by globalization in the transitional period of the current world system. Overall, the results of this book—despite the different prospects presented in each essay, despite their diversity, multidisciplinarity, and interdisciplinary nature—are a compilation of multiple reflections on a single dominant idea.
