Features: The discipline of modern and contemporary Chinese literature has long focused solely on mainland literature, neglecting the study of literature from Taiwan and Hong Kong before the Reform and Opening Up. After the Reform and Opening Up, there were some scattered studies, but they were far from delving into its core. Especially regarding Taiwanese literature, it has indeed achieved its own merits, but mainland academia remains quite distant from it, with systematic and in-depth research yet to be formed. These issues are what we should strive to address. This book formally initiates this effort. Starting from the overall perspective of 20th-century Chinese literature, it examines Taiwanese and Hong Kong literature from the Japanese colonial period (1982–2002), the post-liberation era, and the contemporary period, employing both synchronic and diachronic multidimensional analysis with time as the vertical axis and literary trends as the horizontal axis.
