Features: This is a book about contemporary issues for friends and family. Some of the topics are often considered unrelated to economics, while others provide classic explanations for the core of economic science. Many of these issues remain controversial, and our discussion may provoke reactions beyond the field of economics. However, we believe that one of the key points linking these issues is that they demonstrate the explanatory power of economics about the world around us. In this book, in the first part, we discuss the meaning of scarcity and the trade-offs that may arise in all aspects of our lives—this is a central issue for people around the world. In the second part, the central issues explored, although some may not be very familiar to Chinese readers, we still believe that with the application of basic economic principles, you can understand these important aspects of life for Americans. The third part focuses on non-price allocation, and the issues involved may be more familiar to Chinese readers than to American readers. In the fourth part, we analyze market structures, of course, readers around the world are not unfamiliar with the issues of competition and monopoly. The fifth part emphasizes political economy, at least two chapters deal with issues that are generally important to readers in various countries. In the sixth part, environmental issues become the focus of our attention, and to our knowledge, environmental issues are also becoming increasingly important in China, so we are confident that we can provide Chinese readers with beneficial analysis in this part. Finally, in the seventh part of this book, we shift our perspective to international issues. With China's entry into the World Trade Organization, international trade issues have become particularly important for both China and the United States.
