Features: With over three decades of journalistic experience and close access to top officials, the author reveals in this new work the behind-the-scenes story of President Bush and his war cabinet leading the United States in the anti-terrorism war after the 9/11 terrorist attacks. The bookhand materials—thoughts, concerns, and worries of President Bush and his wartime cabinet members. This makes it a unprecedented record of contemporary leaders' inner journeys during major crisis moments. Based on nearly 100 interviews conducted by the author, including two with the President, the book documents Bush's grand plan to reshape the post-Cold War world order. The content revolves around the activities of President Bush and his "war cabinet" in the approximately 100 days following the 9/11 attack on the World Trade Center in New York. It is divided into three aspects. First, it describes the unprepared and hasty response of top U.S. military and political leaders on the day of the 9/11 attacks and in the days that followed. The narration is vivid, much like television news reporting. The impact of 9/11 on Americans was unprecedented, making them feel that their previously perceived absolutely safe homeland was no longer secure. Second, it details the process of Bush immediately organizing the "war cabinet" and launching the war against terrorism. First, the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency confirmed the relationship between the 9/11 attackers and Osama bin Laden and the Taliban in Afghanistan, then mobilized forces to attack the Taliban, while simultaneously intensifying diplomatic efforts to gain support from relevant countries. The book devotes considerable space to these military and diplomatic activities. Third, it examines the reflection and review of the U.S. authorities and political figures on the 9/11 incident. The Bush administration has long viewed Saddam Hussein of Iraq as a supporter of terrorism, an eyesore and thorn in their side, so after dealing with the Taliban, they prepared to take military action against Iraq. The book concludes with the U.S. high-level policy toward Iraq and the measures being prepared to be taken. The U.S.-Iraq conflict is on the horizon. The book also provides vivid descriptions of the backgrounds, personalities, and actions of key members of President Bush's team during this anti-terrorism war. They include Vice President Cheney, Secretary of State Powell, Defense Secretary Rumsfeld, National Security Advisor Rice, and others.
