Patient's question:
Orbital tumorDoctor's answer:
(1) Surgical treatment. Regardless of whether the orbital tumor is benign or malignant, surgical removal of the tumor is the most common and effective method. It is suitable for over 95% of orbital tumors, such as meningiomas, cavernous hemangiomas, lacrimal gland tumors, optic gliomas, optic sheath tumors, and dermoid cysts of the orbit.(2) Radiotherapy. It is primarily used for malignant orbital tumors and metastatic cancers, such as orbital metastases from breast cancer, lung cancer, and renal cancer, as well as the spread of nasopharyngeal carcinoma to the orbit and adjuvant treatment after tumor removal.
(3) Drug treatment. The vast majority of orbital tumors are ineffective with drug treatment. For those who cannot tolerate surgery or have poor response to radiotherapy, drug treatment may be chosen. For example, smaller orbital inflammatory pseudotumors can be treated with corticosteroids. Malignant lymphomas of the orbit are primarily treated with chemotherapy, such as intravenous administration of cyclophosphamide, vincristine, or oral administration of methylphenylbutazone.
