This dictionary includes 4,280 entries of renowned foreign music performers, covering the following fields: singers, instrumentalists, and conductors. The criteria for selecting entries are based on international understanding: those who have made significant contributions to the field, those who hold prominent positions or high fame in the field, award winners of international competitions, those who have published a substantial number of creative works, those with outstanding performance and teaching achievements, and those who have recorded albums and tapes. Entries are generally listed by surname, with the main content including: Chinese name, Western name, birth and death dates, and career experience. The entries provide only objective introductions without descriptive evaluations. The arrangement of entries follows the alphabetical order of Latin letters for surnames. If surnames start with the same letter, the second letter is used for sorting, and so on. Western names and place names are consistently written in Latin letters. The Chinese translations of names and place names follow the standard transliteration tables and the "Name Translation Handbook" edited by Xin Hua, adhering to established translations for well-known names and those with conventionalized usage. All historical years mentioned in the book are presented in the Common Era (CE). The sources used for this dictionary include music history books, from various countries, as well as cover descriptions of performers from albums, tapes, and laser discs published by major international record companies. A classified index is included at the end of the book for readers' reference.
