The snow on the street is melting quietly under the noon sun of winter, making the cold air damp. As usual, I cover half my face with a scarf, revealing only my eyes as I watch the gray snow tracks under the wheels and the people coming and going. I've long been accustomed to not lifting my head in the sun, just as I've long been accustomed to not going out during the day. Winter sunlight always brings joy to people, but now what I think is just to escape quickly.
I knew I had a severe allergy when I was a child. Back then, I always carried a dirty handkerchief with me, which my classmates unceremoniously called me "runny nose," and I would have loud sneezes in and out of class. My parents stubbornly attributed this to a cold for years after I developed this symptom, endlessly discussing why a boy's body would be so weak, and eventually forced me to take cold medicine.
